Applicable registered persons
Registered Practitioners
The Code sets out professional practice and ethical obligations for registered practitioners pursuant to section 21 and section 4 of the Geologists Act 2008. Sanctions, conditions or restrictions may also be imposed under section 33.
Professional Ethics
Addresses competence, lawful work, honest representation, fair competition and avoidance of improper benefit.
Public and Environment
Requires due regard for public welfare, health, safety, the environment and factual public statements.
Advancement of the Profession
Supports service quality, knowledge sharing, training and responsible public understanding of geological science.
Professional Relationships
Requires dignity, courtesy, good faith and respect in dealings with practitioners and registered geologists.
Duties to Clients
Covers reasonable fees, confidentiality, conflicts, responsibility for signed work, disclosure and professional independence.
A registered practitioner must make clear that the practitioner is not a geologist and must not make misleading claims about professional status or competence.
