From Graduate Geologist to Professional Geologist

A Registered Graduate Geologist must obtain practical experience approved by the Board and pass the examination determined by the Board before applying for registration as a Registered Professional Geologist.

Eligibility
  • Malaysian citizen or permanent resident of Malaysia.
  • Registered as a Registered Graduate Geologist for the current year.
  • Practical experience satisfying subsection 20(2) of the Geologists Act 2008.
Examination structure

Two-part assessment

Part I must be passed before a candidate may proceed to Part II.

Professional Practice

Part II

Competency Assessment

The assessment considers the candidate's technical competence, professional judgement, communication, management of statutory responsibilities and commitment to professional practice.

Geological Complexity

Understanding geological processes in space and time in relation to the candidate's speciality.

Critical Evaluation

Evaluation of geoscience information to generate sound predictive models.

Competence in the candidate's stated professional area.

Communication

Effective written and oral communication.

Health, Safety and Environment

Management of health, safety, environmental and other statutory obligations.

Professionalism

Understanding and implementation of the Code of Professional Conduct.

Continuing Development

Commitment to Continuing Professional Development throughout the professional career.

Expected level of practice

Candidates must show that they have acquired and applied the required skills, can perform without supervision and can direct the work of others.
