A Registered Graduate Geologist must obtain practical experience approved by the Board and pass the examination determined by the Board before applying for registration as a Registered Professional Geologist.
Geologists Act 2008 [Act 689]Part I must be passed before a candidate may proceed to Part II.
The assessment considers the candidate's technical competence, professional judgement, communication, management of statutory responsibilities and commitment to professional practice.
Candidates should demonstrate applied competence rather than knowledge alone.
Understanding geological processes in space and time in relation to the candidate's speciality.
Evaluation of geoscience information to generate sound predictive models.
Competence in the candidate's stated professional area.
Effective written and oral communication.
Management of health, safety, environmental and other statutory obligations.
Understanding and implementation of the Code of Professional Conduct.
Commitment to Continuing Professional Development throughout the professional career.
Candidates must show that they have acquired and applied the required skills, can perform without supervision and can direct the work of others.

Include proof of payment with the application.
Provide one copy of the applicant's identity card.
Provide a current record of education and professional experience.
The application, supporting documents and proof of payment must be submitted through eGEOReg. Email or in-person submission is no longer the primary application channel.

Check in eGEORegPayment may be made by cash, online banking, money order, bank draft or cheque payable to Lembaga Ahli Geologi. Proof of payment must be uploaded with the eGEOReg application.
The 2026 notice lists examination sessions in May and September 2026.
The Registrar will notify the candidate within fourteen days after the examination result has been endorsed by the Board.
