Use eGEOReg for CPD services

Registered geologists must record CPD activities and submit supporting evidence through eGEOReg. Programme organisers also submit CPD provider applications through the same system.

About CPD

Continuing professional competence

Continuing Professional Development is the systematic maintenance, improvement and extension of professional knowledge and skills, together with the development of personal qualities required throughout a registered person's working life.

CPD helps registered geologists maintain technical competence, follow developments in geoscience and remain informed of changes to professional codes and regulations.

Annual requirement
10credit points for registered geologists below the age of 60
5credit points for registered geologists aged 60 and above

Excess credit points may be carried forward for one subsequent year only. Records must be supported by suitable evidence and remain available for review by the Board.

Activities not listed in the guideline

A registered geologist may apply to the Board for an activity to be considered for suitable CPD credit. Evidence of participation or completion must be provided.

Recognised activities

Six CPD activity categories

Each activity claimed must be supported by evidence appropriate to the activity.

Category A

Educational Activities

Formal study, distance learning, short courses and other geology-related education.

Category B

Learning and Training

Internal courses, online learning, laboratory work, workplace learning and training relevant to professional duties.

Category C

Conferences and Field Visits

Conferences, symposia, workshops, field visits, meetings and other approved professional events.

Category D

Presentations, Publications and Training

Lecturing, presenting, training, chairing or facilitating sessions, and recognised professional publications.

Category E

Contribution to Professional Development

Committee service, technical assessment, peer review, professional bodies and community outreach.

Category F

Industry, Academia and Public Sector

Supervision, thesis assessment, sabbatical placement, adjunct appointments and industry expert panels.

Annex C remains available as a reference to the CPD credit structure, but members’ official CPD records must be maintained through eGEOReg.

Programme organisers

CPD provider applications

  • Open a separate CPD Provider application in eGEOReg for each programme.
  • Submit the application and supporting material through eGEOReg at least two months before the programme.
  • The processing fee is RM100.00 and is non-refundable.
  • Submit the attendance list and materials distributed to participants within two weeks after the programme.

Registration renewal

Keep the annual record current

CPD evidence supports the renewal process. Members should record activities and supporting documents throughout the year rather than waiting until renewal is due.
