Form A

Registered Graduate Geologist

For Malaysian citizens or permanent residents holding a geology qualification accepted by the Board.

Registered Foreign Geologist

Introduction

A Registered Foreign Geologist is a person registered under section 22(2) of the Geologists Act 2008.

Subject to the Act, a Registered Foreign Geologist may practise or undertake employment as a geologist in Malaysia, recover fees for geological services, use the stamp determined by the Board, and prepare or submit geological reports or studies within the permitted fields.

Procedure for Registration

  1. Satisfy the Board that the applicant possesses qualifications recognised for professional geological practice in the country where the applicant normally practises.
  2. Demonstrate the geological expertise required for the proposed assignment.
  3. Complete the Form E application in eGEOReg.
  4. Pay the RM50.00 processing fee.
  5. Prepare the certified supporting documents listed in Form E, including information relating to the assignment in Malaysia where required.
  6. Submit the complete application through eGEOReg. The application is to be decided within ninety days from the date of receipt.

Documents to Submit

  • Completed Form E application in eGEOReg.
  • Proof of payment of the RM50.00 processing fee.
  • Certified true copy of the Bachelor’s degree certificate.
  • Certified true copy of the Bachelor’s degree transcript.
  • Translation into Bahasa Melayu or English where the original qualification document is in another language.
  • Copy of passport.
  • Resume / curriculum vitae.
  • Information on the Malaysian assignment and local sponsor where required by Form E.
Registration fee after approval: RM1,000.00. Only complete applications submitted through eGEOReg with the required supporting documents will be processed for consideration by the Board.
Form B

Registered Professional Geologist

Introduction

A Registered Professional Geologist is a person registered under section 20(3) of the Geologists Act 2008. This registration category is available only to Malaysian citizens or permanent residents.

A Registered Professional Geologist may practise and provide geological services, use the title “Professional Geologist” and the abbreviation “P.Geol.”, use the stamp determined by the Board, and prepare or submit geological reports or studies within the scope permitted by the Act.

Procedure for Registration

  1. Hold a qualification approved by the Board.
  2. Be registered as a Registered Graduate Geologist.
  3. Obtain practical geological experience approved by the Board.
  4. Pass the examination determined by the Board.
  5. Complete the Form B application in eGEOReg.
  6. Pay the RM50.00 processing fee and prepare the certified supporting documents listed in Form B.
  7. Submit the complete application through eGEOReg. The application is to be decided within ninety days from the date of receipt.

Documents to Submit

  • Completed Form B application in eGEOReg.
  • Proof of payment of the RM50.00 processing fee.
  • Letter confirming successful completion of the Professional Assessment Examination.
  • Current-year certificate of registration as a Registered Graduate Geologist.
  • Resume / curriculum vitae.
  • Any additional supporting documents required in Form B.
Registration fee after approval: RM300.00. Only complete applications submitted through eGEOReg with the required supporting documents will be processed for consideration by the Board.
Form A

Registered Graduate Geologist

Introduction

Registration as a Graduate Geologist is required for a university graduate who wishes to take up employment as a geologist.

A person holding a qualification approved by the Board may apply to be registered as a Graduate Geologist. This registration category is available only to Malaysian citizens or permanent residents.

Procedure for Registration

  1. Confirm that the geology qualification is approved or accepted by the Board.
  2. Complete the Form A application in eGEOReg.
  3. Pay the RM50.00 processing fee and retain the proof of payment.
  4. Prepare the certified supporting documents listed in Form A.
  5. Submit the complete application through eGEOReg.
  6. A complete application will be processed and presented to the Board. The application is to be decided within ninety days from the date of receipt.

  • Completed Form A application in eGEOReg.
  • Proof of payment of the RM50.00 processing fee.
  • Certified true copy of the Bachelor’s degree certificate.
  • Certified true copy of the Bachelor’s degree transcript.

Registration Renewal

Introduction

A Certificate of Registration issued to a registered geologist or registered practitioner expires on 31 December of the year in which it is issued.

The certificate may be renewed annually upon payment of the renewal fee prescribed in the Second Schedule of the Geologists (Registration of Geologists) Regulations 2015. The Board may refuse renewal where conditions determined by the Board have not been satisfied.

Key Dates and Effect

31 DecemberCertificate of Registration expires.
Before 31 JanuarySubmit the complete renewal application to the Board.
From 1 FebruaryFailure to renew results in removal of the name from the Register under section 34(b) of the Geologists Act 2008.

Procedure for Renewal

  1. Complete the renewal application (Form F) in eGEOReg.
  2. Pay the prescribed renewal fee for the applicable registration category.
  3. Ensure the CPD record and supporting evidence are up to date in eGEOReg.
  4. Ensure the required CPD credit points have been satisfied.
  5. Include any other information required by the Board.
  6. Submit the complete renewal application through eGEOReg before 31 January.

  • Proof of payment of the renewal fee.
  • CPD record and supporting evidence in eGEOReg.
  • Any other information required by the Board.

CPD Requirement

  • 10 CPD credit points for registered geologists below the age of 60.
  • 5 CPD credit points for registered geologists aged 60 and above.

Only a complete renewal submission should be made. A renewal may be refused if the conditions determined by the Board have not been satisfied.
Section 35

Reinstatement

Identify the applicable route, review the requirements and submit the reinstatement application through eGEOReg.

35(2) • Form G

Failure to renew for not more than 3 years

For a registered person removed from the Register for failure to renew for a period of up to three years.

Failure to renew for more than 3 consecutive years

The Board must be satisfied with the reasons for reinstatement. A RM50 processing fee and explanatory letter are required.

Reinstatement following revocation by order of the Board

For a person removed under paragraph 33(2)(d), subject to the statutory waiting period and appeal position.

Section 35(2) • Form G

Reinstatement — Failure to Renew for Not More Than 3 Years

Introduction

This route applies where the name of a registered geologist or registered practitioner has been removed from the Register for failure to renew registration for a period of not more than three years.

Reinstatement is made by notifying the Registrar of the desire to be reinstated and paying the prescribed reinstatement fee.

Procedure for Reinstatement

  1. Confirm that the period of non-renewal does not exceed three years.
  2. Complete the Form G application in eGEOReg.
  3. Pay the prescribed reinstatement fee applicable to the registration category and period.
  4. Prepare the proof of payment and any other information required by the Board.
  5. Submit the complete application through eGEOReg.

  • Proof of payment of the reinstatement fee.
  • Any other information required by the Board.

Section 35(3) • Form H

Reinstatement — Failure to Renew for More Than 3 Consecutive Years

Introduction

This route applies where a registered geologist or registered practitioner has failed to renew registration for more than three consecutive years.

Reinstatement is subject to the Board being satisfied with the reasons provided and payment of the prescribed fee.

Procedure for Reinstatement

  1. Complete the Form H application in eGEOReg.
  2. Pay the RM50.00 processing fee.
  3. Prepare a formal letter explaining the reasons for failing to renew the registration.
  4. Provide any other information required by the Board.
  5. Submit the complete application through eGEOReg for the Board’s consideration.

  • Letter explaining the reasons for failure to renew registration.

Section 35(4) • Form I

Reinstatement Following Revocation by Order of the Board

Introduction

This route applies where a name was removed from the Register under an order of the Board pursuant to paragraph 33(2)(d) and no appeal was made, or the appeal was dismissed or withdrawn.

An application may be made only after at least six months from the date of the revocation order or from the appeal decision or withdrawal date, whichever is later.

Procedure for Reinstatement

  1. Confirm that the required minimum six-month period has elapsed.
  2. Complete the Form I application in eGEOReg.
  3. Pay the RM50.00 processing fee.
  4. Prepare a formal letter explaining the reasons for the desire to be reinstated.
  5. Provide any other information required by the Board.
  6. Submit the complete application through eGEOReg for the Board’s consideration.

  • Proof of payment of the RM50.00 processing fee.
  • Letter explaining the reasons for the desire to be reinstated.

Registration of Geological Firms

Firm Registration

Renewal of an existing firm registration certificate is managed through eGEOReg. New firm registration applications must be submitted by email to firm@bog.gov.my using the applicable official category package below.
